& GEORGE RICKEY
Opening Friday, 28th April 2023, 6 to 9 pm
Gallery Weekend 29th April 2023, 11 am to 7 pm and 30th April 2023 11 am to 6 pm
Galerie Michael Haas and at Kunst Lager Haas
Since the 1960s, both Louise Nevelson and George Rickey have been part of the German art scene through their participation in documenta III and IV. George Rickey is best known for his outdoor sculptures, for example his sculpture “Four Squares in a Square” (1969) returned to its place in front of the New National Gallery in Berlin just last year after the renovation. Nevelson’s works are less well known in Germany, which is surprising given that important works by Nevelson can be found in every American museum and her works are also present in public space in the USA – especially in New York.
Louise Nevelson and George Rickey are being presented in a joint exhibition for the first time: Galerie Michael Haas is pleased to invite you to the opening in the premises on Niebuhrstraße and in the Kunst Lager Haas, just on time for this year’s Gallery Weekend.
Please note our special opening hours during the Gallery Weekend:
28th April 2023, 9 am to 6 pm
29th April 2023, 11 am to 7 pm
30th April 2023, 11 am to 6 pm
In our exhibition we are showing wall sculptures, collages and freestanding sculptures by Louise Nevelson as well as wall and ceiling, interior and exterior sculptures by George Rickey, accompanying a catalogue will be released.
Our exhibition also marks the start of a series of exhibitions and events on George Rickey in and around Berlin in 2023. In June opens Sculpture and Nature: George Rickey with eight outdoor sculptures in the Schlossgut Schwante sculpture park and in September the George Rickey Foundation will hold a symposium on the artist (also at Schlossgut Schwante).
We are looking forward to your visit!
